Project Y
Architect: Marzia Fiume Garelli – FiumeArchitecture
Photography: Francesco Catino - Studio Catino
Location: Via Ronzoni, Rome
2021 – 120sqm
Located in the Portuense district of Rome, Project Y is a sophisticated 120-square-meter residential renovation that masterfully balances the preservation of historic elements with contemporary functional design.
The Living Space: Honoring the Past
The soul of the apartment lies in its living area, where the decision was made to maintain and restore the original marble flooring. This choice preserves the noble character of the residence, creating a timeless foundation that contrasts beautifully with modern architectural additions, such as the sculptural false ceilings and minimalist lighting integration.
The Heart of the Home: An Open-Plan Vision
The layout was reimagined to foster a sense of openness and light. The large, open-concept kitchen serves as the functional centerpiece of the home. Strategically positioned to face the expansive terrace, it creates a seamless visual and physical connection between the interior and exterior. This orientation ensures that the preparation and dining areas are constantly bathed in natural light, making the terrace an outdoor extension of the kitchen itself.
A Modern Technical Overhaul
Beyond the aesthetics, the renovation involved a complete technical update. From the careful redistribution of internal spaces to the integration of new systems, every detail was handled with the signature precision of FiumeArchitecture. The result is a home that feels both "young" and established—a place where the grandeur of Roman marble meets the fluidity of modern Mediterranean living.
